The Question Of Illegal Immigration, Inauguration Day, And The Trump Factor – Part II

Protected by Copyscape Web Copyright Checker

Overnight, on the 20th day in the month of January, of the year 2017, I had a dream. Not a figurative dream, but a literal dream. Dreams are designed to be decoded. I dreamed I was standing on a line with a bunch of other people waiting to order some food at White Castles restaurant. I can imagine, that White Castles restaurant was in actuality symbolizing the White House. So, today is the inauguration day for Donald Trump, and in just a few minutes he will assume the mantle to formally become the 45th President of the United States of America. But, that’s not what I want to talk about. You know what? I always felt there is a subtle difference between comprehending something and understanding something. For myself, to comprehend something meant to grasp the meaning of something at a more intricate level, at the point where you would be able to accurately explain it back. To understand something meant to have a general knowledge of how an application works. For instance, I understand the cat was purring, but do you comprehend how the larynx box is involved to generate that specific form of vocalization? Yet, I cannot comprehend how so many educated people were taken. It ALWAYS bothered me. What? Every time I thought about it…it bothered me. It bothered me in terms of the logical calculation, or I should say the calculations behind it? What? But, in my favor, I ALWAYS said, “I know people realizes he can’t remove all of the millions of our illegal immigrants. The people just want a leader who thinks in that direction”. But, that’s not what bothered me. What bothered me was Donald Trump’s $25 billion dollar wall project pledge. Actually, it kept making no sense at all to me. When President Trump indicated parts of the wall can stay in places as a fence along the southern border, in my mind, it made no sense to him either (at least that’s how I viewed the neo-adjustment, and practicality of that statement). Staging, planning, logistics, length, through the chronology of a potential 8-year president? It all always BOTHERED ME A LOT, and, and, and, it still does. I’m just sayin….

It would even be a feat to create fill-in repairs along the wall that’s already there. However, to plant the notion of a mega-wall in the minds of the people, and convince so many to wait for it is truly outstanding. It’s not to imply that it can’t happen, or won’t happen; yet, every time I kept thinking about this projected feat, two other places would enter my thoughts, AND STILL DO. A newly constructed 1,900-mile wall on the U.S.-Mexican border erected by modern day engineers would be a true marvel to behold. Let’s go here. By what I understand (there we go again), I believe it is the ONLY man made structure that can be seen from space with the naked eye: The Great Wall of China. That is a real work of art that still stands today. It may have taken centuries to complete. Catch my drift? I’m no engineer, but I have to ask, who would build America’s Wall? The entire population of Houston? Men, women, and hooky-playing children? How high would it be? How thick to get the job done? I figure several cross-border roaming animal species would be cut off. It is not to say, this project is not reachable, and that the cost involved would not be astronomical in financial commitments and manpower, yet, to make fill-in repairs to the existing fence would be more feasible. Therefore, it would not surprise me if the original views would be practically downgraded to this conclusion.

Again, the very notion of designing and completing such a potential venture of architecture, and the post achievement of such a marvel in engineering reminds me of two other places (the Berlin Wall is a thought). The first was already mentioned in the last paragraph. The second? It is called sin city. And the population does not like that name either. It is called sin city, due to it’s infamous red light district, and it’s legalized brothels for prostitution. Down through the ages, this territory was stuck in a revolving door of time left in the middle of nowhere, except the desert itself. That’s where it’s currently situated. But in 1945, the powerful New York La Cosa Nostra changed all of that when it sent the once infamous Jewish gangster Benjamin “Bugsy” Siegel to the Southwestern portion of the United States. Uh-huh! Yep! His idea got him killed, but after his death, his idea was incredibly successful. How ironic! How awful! How as this younger generation loves to say, “AWESOME”! Maybe it was the sinner who created sin-city? But if I said it like that, it would be so divisive. I’m just a little man on the Earth, with a sin problem trying to get along with Jesus. I need Him to cleanse William Tisdale, and set me free like any other in need of desperate repair. We all have a sin problem. However, Bugsy Siegel not only had a sin problem. Bugsy Siegel had a dream. To portray the middle of the desert, and use it as a place to make money. If only with a mere thought I could get the leaves on the trees to miraculously transform their chemical properties into money to do the same for me. The New York mob was skeptical, but released the money for this project. The total financial output amounted to approximately $6 million dollars of mafia money. On December 26, 1946, it was opening night for Bugsy Siegel’s finished product. On it’s opening night the finished “Flamingo Hotel” grossed nothing. That infuriated the New York mafia. Wait on the Lord? Or, wait on satan the devil? Which one? Since that night, it has grossed over a billion dollars in revenue. LAS VEGAS gambling casinos are the most famous in America (Atlantic City is nearing history), and the city has always had a national mafia hand in there somewhere. This was the city built out of the desert. The risen phoenix of the ashes… You know how long the series of fences, and short walls are along the U.S.-Mexican border? 580 miles. It would be like asking American taxpayers to “HEY YALL? LET’S BUILD ANOTHER LAS VEGAS”. Yeah, an entire city on the hills. Could Obamacare’s cost be cut to help pay for the wall? Or let’s wind up the financially dying Detroit like a yo-yo, and unwind it along the U.S.-Mexican border. A stretched out Mobile City will become our new wall. Dadaaaaaa! That would be the legacy of the 2006 Secure Fence Act signed by President George W. Bush.

So many people who live along the border on the U.S. side don’t want this wall. Could it be, because many of them are of Mexican decent? But don’t anyone dare mention this, because they’ll be accused of RACISM! What? You’re claiming we’re siding with them just because we both come from Mexico? Didn’t Trump already get in trouble with the news media, because he said a federal judge is biased in favor of illegal immigrants, due to his Mexican background? It may be best to keep quiet. Anyway, should the wall be spiked at the top with razors?

With regards to the state of California, the illegal immigrant population is a huge drain on the state’s financial resources. They take more out than they put back into the state’s economy via tax returns. Plus, America currently has a $19 trillion dollar deficit. China is growing stronger and angrier, and some day they’ll want payment. This on the other and reminds me of Habakkuk 2. Nearly half a million soldiers, prisoners, and peasants built China’s Great Wall. About that many reportedly died building it. Mexicans on the other hand, live on both sides of the border. Many illegal alien Mexicans are on the U.S. side, and Mexicans from Mexico are on the other side. When Trump says Mexico will pay for it. Does he mean the costs will come through the price of Mexican labor and sweat? And does that mean, once again, American workers lose out? Even right here in the USA? A border trade war via blackmail with a renegotiated NAFTA as the new bargaining chip? Eventual financial reimbursement to the USA from Mexico? Or was the original statement just a rollercoaster ride filled with capricious talk that is forced to expand it’s tracks, and evolve it’s loops, to keep up with the press for challenging his credibility over this issue? To request the money from Congress to pay for this “Great Wall” is going to incur a fight on Capitol Hill. A fight that would likely divide the Republicans, since many would feel that money would be best spent on other things.

President Donald Trump Holds A Joint News Conference With British PM Theresa May – USA- 01-27-2017

Now, for the Christian, many believe there is another project President Trump is destined to encourage the nation of Israel to build. The 3rd Temple in Jerusalem. A real international flashpoint and all. The first was built during King Solomon’s reign. King David, his father was disqualified by God, because he had shed much blood during Israeli wars with their neighbors. The 2nd Temple was built when the kings of Persia allowed representatives of a captive Jewish community to return to Judah to build a Temple to God: the Biblical books of Ezra & Nehemiah. Of course, where this proposed 3rd Temple Mount would be built is located on the Muslim’s Rock of The Dome. That makes it a point of contention. Will this occur during a Trump administration? To further this idea, the Persian king Cyrus, is not mentioned until the 45th chapter of the Book of Isaiah. Donald Trump is the 45th President of America. In the eyes of some who study Biblical prophecy, he is the possible Cyrus of the contemporary period. I have no idea if this Temple Mount building will occur during his presidency. However, President Trump is already making moves to have the American embassy moved from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. For both aforementioned projects, only time will tell. My prayer is that Donald Trump makes an excellent President, and that’s my prayer for him to lead this nation as it’s new president. I pray when he needs counsel from God, he request it in the name of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. A powerful God and Father Whom freely gives to those who request wisdom. That’s my prayer as we should pray for our leaders says the Word of God. James 1:5-8; 1 Peter 2:13-17; 1 Timothy 2:1-3. Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: BUT WE WILL REMEMBER THE NAME OF YE LORD OUR GOD. PSALM 20:7. GENEVA BIBLE 1587

*UPDATE* – 01/25/2017 – President Trump issues an executive order to commence building the wall which he expects to begin in a matter “of months”. There may be another way to get Mexico to pay for the building of the border fence/wall. The costs can be expected to be as much as $50 billion dollars. Mexico is among the top ten nations of the world that receives U.S. financial assistance. In 2012, according to the website Graphiq, Mexico is said to have received $209 million dollars in American financial assistance. However, other websites place that number much higher. It is said Mexico received a financial aid package of $417 million dollars for 2012, and $560 million dollars in 2013, respectively, by using Wikipedia as a source. Still, according to the Journalist, Allison Hill, a frequent guest on BBC radio, such figures go as high as $757.7 million dollars in US financial aid for Mexico. If the Trump administration diverts that aid into building a wall, Mexico will either fully, or partially pay for the wall in such manner (over many years).

*UPDATE* – 01/25/2017 – In a News conference addressed to the Department of Homeland Security, President Trump has proposed Mexico will reimburse the U.S. for the building of the Wall at a future date.

*Update* – 01/26/2017 – President Trump proposes a 20% tariff on Mexican imports to pay for the border Wall.

Donald Trump: The Capricious Bad Boy Of The Republican Party – Part II

Protected by Copyscape

It started like any other day… No! That’s not right. And because that’s not right. I’m forced to reinvent how I would like to commence this preamble. To myself and to you the reader, it may have seemed like it started like any other day, but of course there were a number of high profile retroactive events that had led up to “the Donalds” seemingly irreversible combustible statement. For some, it wreaked of insensitivity, and had the tasteless scent of an inexpensive bottle of red wine squeezed from seedless rotting grapes. For some, Donald Trump may have seemed heavily intoxicated after consuming a classic bottle of Dom Perignon before his quazi-quizotic news conference. However, for others, what he said was at the zenith of an ingenious moment to bring attention to an immigration system in desperate need of repair. And that’s the precise strategy he used the day he announced his running as a candidate for the presidency of the United States of America. It was captivating, it was memorable, it was reflective of someone who defied the risks of sending numerable messages to various audiences, both international and domestic, for multiple political and social reactions, and millions of dollars in financial consequences to enlarge his campaign drive with an emotive appeal towards older Americans. Such Americans feel their America is gradually being transformed away from the country they grew up in. Actually, I was not going to write anymore on this topic. But I gotta go with the flow on this one. Not everyone wants to go with every flow forced upon them. Just one of those days.

The weird thing about this is, the American Christian church is so silent about importing a potential religious aspect with some of the highest intolerable characteristics for Christianity on the earth. While Donald Trump’s message was definitely aimed at differing audiences, I strongly believe, it was also aimed as a counter influence for his most formidable opponent. An opponent that he has held polarizing views with for a while now. An opponent who has commercial obligations to overseas managers in a diplomatic game of nations. It kept nagging at me. I kept asking myself, has that opponent been offered a stockpile of money, or something after his elected term to sell the nation out? But then again, if Muslims are mistreated here in the Western world, How can Christians in the Western world appeal to Muslim leaders in the Third world to address Christian grievances and persecution? Tis true, it would be nice if all humans loved all other humans in a loving world become perfect, but we come in a variety of beautiful colors with so many flaws, and a lot of notions of what’s good to make the world a better place to live in. Personally, I trust my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to make the world a better place. Getting back to Donald Trump’s message? Maybe, just maybe I don’t even know what I’m talking about, but I’m going to keep talking. For instance, for an American politician to actually implement what Donald Trump has proposed is totally out of the question, because from the standpoint of many Americans, that line of thinking should not come into our perspective. It shouldn’t hold any weight. If that’s the case, then the King of predominantly wahabbi Sunni Muslim Saudi Arabia is Donald Trump, and the Emir of predominantly wahabbi Sunni Muslim Kuwait is Donald Trump, and the Sultan of predominantly wahabbi Sunni Muslim Oman is Donald Trump, and the Emir of Abu Dhabi of predominantly wahabbi Sunni United Arab Emirates is Donald Trump, and the King of predominantly Shia Bahrain is Donald Trump, and the Emir of predominantly wahabbi Sunni Muslim Qatar is Donald Trump. Why? BECAUSE EVERY ONE OF THOSE WORLD LEADERS HAS ALREADY DONE TO THEIR PREDOMINANTLY MUSLIM SYRIAN BRETHREN EXACTLY WHAT DONALD TRUMP WANTS TO DO TO THEM IN AMERICA! They literally locked the door on them to keep them out of their respective countries. I almost forgot, we’re in America, and when it comes to keeping Americans safe from being killed by international threats, Shhhhh! We’re supposed to be quiet about it. But our domestic media has refused to stress that fact. Will the American media repeatedly broadcast the excuse those nations make to ban refugees from their nations? Will that truth reverberate across the television screens of America on a daily basis? The reason those Mid-eastern Gulf kingdoms have indicated they don’t want Syrian Muslim refugees in their nations is, THEY DON’T WANT TERRORISTS IN THEIR NATIONS. Shhhhh! The American people are not supposed to acknowledge that, and should not discuss it so much. But guess what? There are times when people who do not normally agree with one another will come together to face a common threat. I’m not saying he has come that far, but apparently he has ideas that can be studied by the Former Speaker of the House of Representatives. Tom Delay, has informed Newsmax TV Donald Trump “is onto something”. Maybe Donald Trump is onto doing what Mid-eastern Gulf leaders have already done?

After the November Friday the 13th, 2015 attack on the French capital city of Paris, which killed 130 people, President Obama indicated Americans should not be swayed by the violence into believing the USA should turn away from receiving a miniscule number (10,000) of Syrian refugees. At the G20 economic summit in Turkey, he declared, “Slamming the door in their faces would be a betrayal of our values”. Turkey is the same country the president openly informed the world America is not a Christian country during a previous visit. If this man (like his bipartisan predecessors) is encouraging the immigration of atheist, and various religious entities to come across our borders to force a change in the religio-demographic composition of the country, I agree he is succeeding. But whether the importation comes attached to many people without a conscience, or the differing religious bodies slip those in who acquiesce to teachings to murder those who disagree with their religion, or irreligious beliefs which brings the potential for violent friction, that makes us less safe. ISIS said they will sneak their fighters in with the crowd. Many people are wondering whose side President Obama is on. As for testing Syrian refugees for religious values? On November 15, 2015, while at the G20 economic summit in Turkey, President Obama called it “shameful” and said “That’s not what America stands for. We don’t have a religious test on who’s a Muslim, and who’s a Christian. We don’t discriminate…The U.S. does not have a religious test. Those are the universal values we stand for, and that’s what my administration stands for”. After the U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill to create measures to enforce stricter screening on the flow of refugees entering America, President Obama threatened a veto to override any legal threat to his desire to bring in the refugees.

Then on December 02, 2015, after a party in the city of San Bernardino, California, a married Muslim couple of Pakistani decent, Syed Rizwan Farook, 28, and Tashfeen Malik, 29, opened fire with military grade assault weapons on a Social Services center. The resultant gunfire killed 14 people and wounded 21 others. The wife, Tashfeen Malik, had reportedly proclaimed her allegiance to the Islamic State terrorists group over the internet. While Syed Farook was an American citizen, his wife, Tashfeen Malik, was a Pakistani citizen who reportedly married her husband in Saudi Arabia. According to America’s FBI, the pair were radicalized in 2013, and as their radicalism grew in intensity. ISIL was on the rise as well. Unfortunately, the urge to carry out this criminal act of terror, left behind the couple’s six months old baby daughter. Saira Khan, the older sister of Syed Farook, has announced her desire to raise the child in a good setting. I’m sure, Presidential candidate Donald Trump, like so many other Americans, was dwelling on what President Obama was suggesting, and was moved into implementation regarding bringing in Syrian refugees to America.

Enough Was Enough

After this terror attack, Donald Trump now had a kickstart to proclaim to all within ear range what to do. On December 7th, 2015, he stated. “Donald J. Trump is calling for a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our country’s representatives can figure out what the h___ is going on.” That statement is on Donald Trump’s website (It leaves out the h___ part). Later, he suggested it was for temporary purposes. One prominent politician called him “unhinged”. The statement ignited incendiary remarks from politicians across America, and from representatives of Muslim nations around the world. For myself, it was reminiscent of another politician’s infamous statement. A statement that also caught the Western world off guard. The year was 1972. He was a man who was also known for being capricious. Actually, unlike The Donald, he lacked a formal education, but was known for his outrageous speeches to the world. He was also a Muslim. He may have flinched with the notes, but he flared without them. In 1972, he sent an infamous note, and it read “Germany is the place where when Hitler was the prime minister and supreme commander, he burned over six million Jews. This is because Hitler and all German people knew that Israelis are not people who are working in the interest of the world, and that is why they burned the Israelis alive with gas in the soil of Germany.” – Idi Amin, president of Uganda, part of a telegram sent to Kurt Waldheim, UN Secretary-General, and Golda Meir, Israeli premier, on 12 September 1972.

I am not comparing Donald Trump with Idi Amin to the extent of their treatment of humanity. Idi Amin is accused of causing the mass murder of hundreds of thousands of Ugandans. That is a completely different classification. I am only comparing them, as far as, controversial comments made about their views pertaining to a mass of people who the world associates with a particular brand of religion, and the fallout from the comments. Donald Trump never called for the extinction of a whole class of humans. Hitler did with his “final solution”. In 1975, in his address to the United Nations, Idi Amin did, with his call for Israel’s “extinction”. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the former President of Iran did, when he reportedly called for Israel to be “wiped off the face of the map.” So many seemed to be insinuating Donald Trump’s ban proposal was akin to religio-cleansing, but he said nothing about traditional Americanized decades old Muslims born and raised here. He was only discussing the foreign born Muslims who were coming from countries, or adjacent countries sharing borders with, or in the vicinity of countries that has experienced the impact from, or fought domestic civil rebellions in their lands of birth. So many have the knowledge to execute a violent frenzy that is a detriment to civil safety. Is there evidence that that has happened in America’s past? Yes! In the 1990s, El Salvador’s civil war in Central America saw a stream of illegal immigrants fleeing to the United States. Many of those same immigrants created the violent gang MS13, which was considered the most violent, and one of the most racist gangs in the USA at the time. They learned that behavior from their parent country’s civil war.

Anyway, my book, “International Studies For The Christian” addresses a portion of the history of Lebanon’s decline from a majority Christian population. My report is not against Arabs. For example, Lebanon has some of the most beautiful Arab women, and I would marry one with no problem, if the situation were right, and she were a God fearing, Bible reading, Church attending Christian. Ha ha ha. Nevertheless, this is my second written blog about the man we call “the Donald”. Whoever is nominated for President of the United States of America by the GOP, or the Democrats, and if they win the presidency, I pray they make a good leader for all the people. “Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord’s sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme; Or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well. For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men: As free and not using your liberty for a cloak of maliciousness, but as the servants of God. Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king.” 1 Peter 2:13-17

*UPDATE – On 12/10/2015 – Donald Trump says if he is elected President he will seek a federal death penalty for anyone who kills a police officer in the United States.

The Purpose Of This Website Is To Use The Bible To Help Identify, Explore, Research, And Analyze International Issues, Global Affairs, And Current Events Within A Given Geographic Framework To Unveil The Often Times Unseen Hand, And Scriptural Truth Of A Powerful, Wise, And Intelligent God Our Creator. A God That Is Able To Explain Via His Biblical Word And Intelligent Design The Fact That Mankind Is Not Alone In His Existence. A God Who Sent His Son, Jesus Christ, The Lord Of The Creation, And Savior Of Christendom To Redeem All Who Surrender Their Lives To Him From A Decaying Sin Filled World. A World With a World View Diametrically Opposed To The Plan Of A God Who Will Rebuild It According To His Own Word. It Is This God (Father, Son, And Holy Spirit) Who Is Still Involved In The Affairs Of The Nations. Jesus Christ Is God. Jesus Christ Will Soon Return To This Earth As King Of Kings, And Lord Of Lords To Overthrow, And Take Control Of World Affairs. Moreover, The Website Will Aim To Follow Scriptural Truths To Provide Evidence That God Is Able To Predict The Behavior, And Outcome Of International Events As We Approach The Coming Of The Lord. Independent Thought? Because To Many Church Programs Avoid Doing It, And We Are Living In Times When Someone Has To Explain To Christians That The Same God Who Was Involved In The Political Ambitions Of The Nations Spoken Of In The Bible, Is The Same God Who Follows The Political Pursuits Of The Nations Of Today. “Independent Thought Written With A Bunch Of Words” Means An Independent Method To Include Biblical Insight Regarding The Political Relationships, And Dynamics Of Contemporary Issues, Because To Many Church Programs Will Not Include Studying International Political Interactions With A Consistent Long Term Interest. President Obama’s Trip To Kenya, Economic Development, And The Al-Shabab Challenge

She is as the paradox of East Africa, or the punctual syntax in a statement that carries the presupposition that all African nations are failed states. Animated black panther manufactured from sparkling porcelain with a golden collar laced with spectacular emeralds around her neck. It provides light for a glimmer of hope in international studies. As a paradigm that will rest in the midday shade, and a short sprint of economic burst to start the day. The nation rests in the branches like a success in comparison to her geographical neighbors. The collar tends to serve as a sort of tracking device to monitor the economic expansion of her GDP. According to World Bank figures, with a population of 45.55 million denizens, and a GDP of $60.94 billion dollars, Kenya is certainly a hit by African standards. She is tantamount to a Third World nation’s success story in Sub-Saharan Africa, and her annual fiscal growth is expected to project a real GDP growth rate at 3.8% which is higher than most African nations. That track is expected to continue towards the 2017 period. Of the 54 nations the continent hosts, Kenya has traditionally been one of the blessed African nations: For the best part of its existence, the country has not been compelled to budget its resources to fight an internal rebellion. That has changed. GDP per capita income is $694 (USD). According to the World Gold Council, which measures gold reserves for Kenya, their amount stands at 0.03% tonnes.

The chief exports are predominantly agriculture products, and they include goods based on horticulture and tea. An expanded list must consider coffee, tea, textiles, petroleum, iron, steel, and cement. Major trading partners involve trading with the United States, the UK, Pakistan, the Netherlands, and the surrounding East African nations of Uganda and Tanzania. $45966.00 million in KES (Kenyan shillings) is the actual figure in trade exports. Primary imports are mostly machinery imports pertaining to transportation equipment, motor vehicles, steel, resin, and iron. Other important imports are petroleum and plastics. Major import trading partners are Saudi Arabia, India, the United States, China, South Africa, the UAE, and Japan. $144039.00 million KES (Kenyan shillings) is the actual figure in trade imports, while the current figure for external debt is $1361.00 billion (KES).

Kenya, like any other nation also has its share of problems. In July 2014 inflationary levels stood at a high 8.36%, but today nearly a year later that rate is down to 7.03%; however, food inflation is 13.39%, which is slightly up from a previous 13.2% (+1.44). Unemployment levels are at a high 40%, and poverty levels hover at 45.9% overall, which is, of course significantly high. Life expectancy is near 62 years old. To enjoy the benefits of better economic conditions education is a must, and Kenya has one of the highest scholastic enrollments in Africa at 114%. As a nation, Kenya is considered lower middle income. In order to track the performance of large companies in Kenya, the Nairobi Securities Exchange 20 (NSE20) is used as an indicator, and the current stock market index is 4539.47, which is down from 4578.62, and for now it is still sliding down (It has its fluctuating periods of peak performances).

The primary purpose for President Barack Obama’s trip to Kenya was to discuss security issues, and the need for the government to focus on combatting corruption. During his discussion with his Kenyan counterpart, President Uhuru Kenyatta, stood unmoved by President Obama’s appeal to allow his nation to ease restrictions on gay rights. Today, gay couples or those accused of homosexuality can be imprisoned in Kenya. Nevertheless, the Kenyan president rightly informed his American counterpart, whom is still considered a local by-product of Kenyan heritage, that there were many more important issues that Kenyans face. Personally, I cannot comprehend why he would mention such a thing, during a major diplomatic discussion of such a magnitude. The poverty rate in Kenya is at 45.9%. Is one supposed to be walking around as hungry unemployed homosexuals?

In the year 2007, Kenyans saw widespread ethnic violence during, and after participation in their presidential elections, which were accused by voters of being rigged. While Kenya has roughly 70 ethnicities, the largest ethnic groups consist of five groups: Kikuyu – 20%, Luhya – 14%, Luo – 13% (The ethnic group that reportedly sponsored Christian prophet Johanwa Owalo, who in 1912, allegedly prophesied a son of Kenyan heritage will cause America to burn), Kalenjin – 11%, and Kamba – 11%. The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) was supported by Luhya, Luo, and Kalenjin groups, but the Party of National Unity (PNU) gained popular support from the Kikuyu ethnic group. On December 27, 2007, voter turn out was at approximately 70% of the legal voting age population, and European Union monitors were on hand to check for a free and fair election. Incumbent President Mwai Kibaki, of the PNU was reportedly losing the vote to ODM leader Raila Odinga (a first cousin of U.S. President Barack Obama). Yet, Samuel Kivuitu, Kenya’s Electoral Commission Chairman, announced President Mwai Kibaki, as the presidential legal winner on December 30, 2007. EU monitors felt ODM figure Raila Odinga, had been cheated of the election result, and apparently his supporters agreed. Widespread fratricidal ethnic violence, and murders plagued supporters of both political parties, and Kenyan police were also accused in taking part in much of the violence.

International observers on human rights, the United Nations Security Council, The International Criminal Court in the Hague, the African Union, and several other prominent international organizations pressured the political parties to end the violence, and the judicial-political process in Kenya introduced a series of reforms to prevent election oriented violence to ever commence in Kenya again. However, the ICC eventually brought criminal charges against the “Ocampo Six” which was portrayed as instigating the violence. At one point, the ICC even ignored disagreement with the UNSC to pursue the charges. Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta (the son of Kenya’s founding father whom was the first president of the nation), was also one of the Kenyan Ocampo Six, and he fought the charges for years. On December 14, 2014, the charges against him by the ICC were finally dropped. He was also declared the free and fair winner in the 2014 elections in Kenya.

Why did President Obama visit Kenya now as opposed to before? I believe he answered that a few years ago. In 2009, during a visit to Ghana to meet with his Ghanian counterpart President John Atta Mills, President Obama said, “We think Ghana can be a measure of extraordinary success throughout the continent”. Later, in an interview with AllAfrica.com he declared, “For many years we made excuses about corruption, or poor governance insisting this was somehow the consequence of neocolonialism, or the West has been oppressive, or racism”. In other words, President Obama shuns those nations that engage in what is perceived as senseless violence from those who lack the basic intellectual discourse to peacefully handle disputes via negotiated settlements. On Saturday July 11, 2009 he said in his address to Ghana’s parliament “It is easy to point fingers, and to pin the blame for these problems on others. Yes, a colonial map that made little sense bred conflict, and the West has often approached Africa as a patron, rather than a partner. But the West is not responsible for the destruction of the Zimbabwean economy over the last decade, or wars in which children are enlisted as combatants.” When addressing the reason he chose Ghana to visit, and not Kenya he further explained. “Here in Ghana, you show us a face of Africa that is too often overlooked by a world that sees only tragedy or the need for charity. The people of Ghana have worked hard to put democracy on a firmer footing, with peaceful transfers of power even in the wake of closely contested elections. And with improved governance and an emerging civil society, Ghana’s economy has shown impressive rates of growth.” President Obama believes Kenya has finally reached that level of acceptability when it concentrates on economic growth, democratic ideals, and stabilizing its markets to attract investment, but it must continue to shun war, instability, and corruption which retards fiscal growth.

As for Kenya and Ethiopia, a letter signed by 13 signatories sponsored by Amnesty International stated, “Both countries face real security threats but we are concerned by the way in which each government has responded, often with abusive security measures and increased efforts to stifle civil society and independent media.” The letter went on to state there is a need to “address both new and longstanding challenges with which the country continues to grapple – from security force impunity and the need for criminal justice reforms, to an increasingly restrictive environment for media and civil society, and growing pressure on Kenya’s Somali refugee population and its Muslim communities.” I imagine this is a portion of the corruption President Obama recognized worth mentioning. If the aforementioned reports are accurate, both countries have reasons for behaving in this way.

In October of 2011, Kenya sent soldiers across the border to battle al-shabab militants, after accusing the group of kidnapping Kenyans. In 2012, the Somali based Islamic terror group Al-Shabaab (The Youth – A splinter group from the ‘Islamic Courts Union’ whose members were defeated by a joint Somali-Ethiopian military venture in 2006) publicly declared its allegiance to Al-Qaeda. The group has since instigated a series of high-profile attacks in Kenya and Ethiopia. The most notorious of these attacks came when they sent in teams of terror cells to attack the Westgate Mall in Nairobi. The group claimed responsibility for the attack on September 21, 2013. The town of Mpeketoni, was another place the group attacked in a two day siege that led to the slaying of 60 people from the Kikuyu ethnic group. The murdered were believed to have been killed as a symbolic strike against the ethnic group of President Uhuru Kenyatta. The latest attack was on July 07, 2015, in the Kenyan town of Soko Mbuzi, of Northern Kenya, where the group is believed to be responsible for killing 14 Kenyans. Al-Shabab is also known for murdering Christians in cold blood after separating, and singling out known Christian worshippers from other groups. The last presidential strong man in Somalia was the government of President Muhammad Siad Barre, and since his fall in 1991, Kenya has taken in many ethnic Somali refugees. I imagine they are tested in government sponsored campaigns to root out suspected collaborators of the Al-Shabab group.

Last, President Obama pledged support towards counter terrorism efforts, but stated “If in reaction to terrorism, you’re restricting legitimate organizations, reducing the scope of peaceful organization, then that can have the inadvertent effect of increasing the pool of recruits for terrorism.” I really hope not! President Obama seemed to have a good time with family members he knew, and some he never met before. Good! Some Kenyans felt critical that he waited for so long to visit the nation that bore his paternal family, and some even felt President Bush contributed much more towards Africa’s medical and economic development. I second that. Security concerns forbade him to visit the village his father is from. However, before he moves on to Ethiopia, he gives Kenya a big emotional hug. She is the Republic of Kenya.
